With an overall altutitude of 1684m (5524ft) and situated right between two of the major peaks of the Pollino massif, Serra del Prete and Mt. Pollino, the glade Colle Gaudolino (ital. colle = hill) is an intersection of several significant hiking trails. Being also one of the mountain range’s principal passes, it runs in a general north-south course. The glade itself tapers on both ends, descending immediately towards extensive beech groves. A nearby bad weather shelter and the natural spring (named ‘Spezzavùmmula’) at a striking distance make it an important hub for hikers and local herdsmen alike.
