With its 2004m / 6574ft the peak of Serra del Pollinello is a distict landmark that dominates the great doline on the southern versant of Mt. Pollino. From a certain perspective it might easily be regarded as a mere elevation on the south ridge of Mt. Pollino itself. However, a quite respectable prominence makes it a (minor) peak in its own right.

Its slopes are skirted by less beaten tracks, so for instance a very recommendable alternative to the ‘normal route’ to Serra Dolce Dorme. Serra Pollinello offers gorgeous views over the steep south escarpment of the Pollino massif, the valley below and the most southern extension of the Apennines – the little known Orsomarso mountain range.
