Hiemal Dolcedorme – Impressions

Some impressions from a winterly ascent of Serra Dolcedorme (2267m / 7437ft). Although the Pollino massif is not to be counted amongst the classical skiing areas, after heavy snowfalls the actual snow layer may easily amount to several meters, especially on the lee side of some of its northern slopes. An excursion to the high plains is all year round possible and perfectly safe, – with or without snowshoes. Planning a visit to one of the peaks, however, the use of crampons and ice axe is recommended and should be seriously taken into consideration.
