Clouds had been hovering over the Pollino mountain range for quite some days now. The forecast had been predicting snow. Well, a couple of inches, at the most. Just enough to trick one into believing that winter finally had arrived. Of course, it hadn’t. But with a “winter” (February 2016) so scarce of snow, being picky would seem rather silly, if not preposterous. Although the thin snow layer covering the Pollino high plains in the early morning hours had already vanished by afternoon, those parts of the mountain’s north face less exposed to the southern sun held exactly what everybody that day had been hoping for: hard and icy snow.
Here some impressions from a fine day with nice company on a classic route: “Via dei Lupi”, Monte Pollino.
