About

Hi there!

This blog came first into being as a photographic archive, a thematic showcase. It features trip reports of various lengths, each one documenting a moment in time, either experienced alone or in pleasant company, climbing mountains, perambulating shady forests, resting on high plains or descending rolling slopes (well, more often it’s rather steep scree and breakneck gullies).

The core region of these wanderings is the mountain ranges of the Apennines, in particular those of central and southern Italy. The blog’s archive provides a growing number of itineraries (with downloadable GPS files) to some of the most prominent peaks of this region, comprising both classics and alternative routes to some minor peaks, – betimes ‘minor’ by the name alone.

There are plenty of fairly informative websites and (halfway) reliable guidebooks available in Italian. This here is also addressing an interested audience of non-native speakers and, hopefully, will provide you with some useful information about hiking trails and climbing routes of a region that most likely is going to surprise you.

So what is it ABOUT? To put it in a nutshell, it’s about exploration. Not about exploring the white spots on any geographical map, for there might be none. It’s about mapping the feelings induced by particular places, about the sensations caused by being exposed to the forces of nature. In other words, it’s about the emotional response to beauty and, quite often, to the lessons learned from physical and psychological challenges accepted in the pursuit of new horizons.
